This research paper aims to emphasize the importance of barangay history in the context of local history. Despite being a part of local history, barangay history is often neglected due to limited sources and inadequate research perspectives. The paper also provides a brief overview of the background and historical significance of barangays as political units. The study draws on the research conducted on the local history of Pasig to underscore the exploration of barangay histories. Several examples of sources that can provide better understanding on the evolution of barangays over time are included. Lastly, the paper offers insights and comments on the challenges and goals of doing barangay histories.

Wensley M. The economic burden, escalating from 505,430 cases in 2000 to 5.2 million in 2019, underlines its severity. Southeast Asia, including the Philippines, faces unique challenges due to climate and geography, making it an endemic region. Urbanization and climate change further complicate Dengue control, with its impact on human lives evident in Southeast Asia's rising mortality and morbidity. Metro Manila, a Dengue hotspot since 1953, witnessed recurring epidemics and the emergence of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF), notably affecting Filipino children. The Department of Health responded with surveillance, public awareness, and vector control. Rapid urbanization, creating breeding grounds in slums, and climate change intensify Dengue transmission. The impact on urban communities, particularly in Metro Manila, is substantial, overwhelming healthcare facilities and imposing economic burdens. A study estimates an annual societal cost, emphasizing its disproportionate impact on marginalized communities. Dengue prevention policies involve surveillance, public health education, and medical treatments, including the controversial Dengvaxia vaccine. Despite progress, the dynamic nature of Dengue requires continuous vigilance. The ongoing battle against Dengue in Metro Manila underscores the importance of integrated strategies, community involvement, and proactive measures to combat this persistent public health threat. Resilience is crucial in addressing challenges like climate change, urbanization, and emerging strains. Ongoing research and a multifaceted approach are imperative for effective Dengue management in Metro Manila and globally.
Jane G. Atienza-Macaraeg, Archie B. Data for this study was collected through walk surveys and documentation of the intended heritage sites. The findings of the study indicated the rich historical background as well as the existence of potential heritage structures in the cemeteries. Finally, it is deemed that these cemeteries and their adjoining colonial-era burial structures must also be regarded as cultural heritage sites alongside churches, bridges, and buildings and called for preserving these cemeteries for future generations to see for themselves.

The work of the late Leopoldo R. Serrano entitled, “A Brief History of Caloocan,” is the first in-depth and serious writing on the history of the community that was released in a publication of the Philippine Historical Association in 1958. This also became the basis of the books later released, hence, making it a canon in the said topic. Serrano’s essay was published several times from 1960 to 1971. It is a misfortune that it is inaccessible nowadays because only few selected libraries have a copy of the said work. This work aims to spread Serrano’s work and be translated into Filipino so that it would have a wider reach. The work will also be contextualized in the state of local studies and its historiography. Furthermore, this annotated translation aims to contribute to the rising Caloocan Studies.
Wogie T.
