Abstract

TALA has strived to fulfill its mission to disseminate historical knowledge and encourage historical inquiry among history enthusiasts and members of the academe since its inception in 2017. On its fifth year, the TALA Editorial Board decided to open its platform for an academic discussion of the years 1972 to 1981 in the Philippines, coinciding with the fiftieth anniversary of the proclamation that placed the Philippines under Martial Law.

Author Biographies

Miguel Antonio A. Jimenez, National Historical Commission of the Philippines

Mr. Miguel Antonio A. Jimenez obtained his Bachelor of Arts in History and Master of Arts in History degrees from the University of Santo Tomas. He formerly taught Humanities and Social Science subjects in Chiang Kai Shek College, Lyceum of the Philippines University, University of Santo Tomas, Colegio de San Juan de Letrán – Manila,  De La Salle – College of Saint Benilde, Cavite State University – Carmona, and Far Eastern University. He is actively conducting research on topics related to Philippine economic history and economic nationalism. Currently, he serves as one of the Managing Editors of TALA: An Online Journal of History and a History Researcher of the Historic Preservation Division, National Historical Commission of the Philippines.

Melanie J. Magpantay, San Beda University

MELANIE J. MAGPANTAY, M.Hist. finished her Masters in History from the University of Santo Tomas where she is currently pursuing her PhD in History. She is also a member of the Editorial Board of TALA: An Online Journal of History. Her research focuses on Philippine church history, women in Philippine history, and church bells of the Philippines.
